FREEMASONRY
IN LEICESTERSHIRE & RUTLAND
In an increasingly divisive world, many people are looking for unity and purpose to help guide their way. Compassion and respect are more important now than ever before. Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, open to those of all backgrounds. Its roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles.

The organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be, both for themselves and for society around them. It does this by providing a structure of support to help them make positive contributions to their local communities, whether it be through fundraising events or volunteer work. In an uncertain world, the principles of Freemasonry: integrity, friendship, respect, and service ring as true today as they ever have before.
ABOUT US
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest organisations, which includes charitable work nationally and locally.

There are over about 170,000 Freemasons throughout England and Wales, as well as in Districts overseas. Our principles are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness. Freemasonry offers the opportunity of meeting a wide variety of people from the local community in a very sociable environment.
It consists of men brought together for mutual intellectual, social and moral improvement. We do this through participation in dramatic ceremonial plays. We welcome men from all religions and emphasise the duties of citizenship. however religious or political discussions are not permitted in our meetings. There are no monetary advantages to being a mason. Masonic Lodges support a wide range of charities, both Masonic and non-Masonic.
OUR VALUES
Rather than working on buildings like the masons of old, today’s Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.
One of the oldest social organisations in the world, Freemasonry is not defined by an ideology. It is open to people from all religions and political persuasions, and provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.
With a membership of more than 200,000 people drawn from communities across the UK, Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.

SERVICE
All Freemasons are actively involved in ‘Community Engagement’ via their lodges. It is said that they give their time, their treasure and their talents to help support local good causes in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.
All members are encouraged to subscribe to their own Charity -which is the Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons’ Charity (registered with the Charity Commission). In addition, lodges raise their own funds and organise volunteering for their own chosen Charities. Each lodge has a Charity Steward who supports their members in fundraising and volunteering.

Make grants and donations to Local Organisations, Institutions and registered Charities.

Provide relief and assistance to the aged, sick, distressed and infirm Freemasons and their families in Leicestershire and Rutland.
