ROYAL ARCH
One Journey - One Organisation

Joining the Royal Arch (or 'Chapter') is the fourth and final stage in Pure Antient Masonry, as defined in the Act of Union of 1813 that created the current United Grand Lodge of England.

Anyone who has been a Master Mason for four weeks can join—and should aspire to join the Royal Arch, because becoming a Companion of the Order continues their voyage of discovery.

The Ceremony of Exaltation sees members follow the clues from the Third Degree to complete their journey in Pure Antient Masonry, in a spectacular and unforgettable ceremony. Through ongoing participation, members will work together with old friends and new Companions to build on the principles of the Craft, and unlock fresh perspectives on the meaning and value of Freemasonry.

What Happens At Royal Arch Meetings?

These take a similar form to Craft meetings, in that we open the Chapter, present certificates, approve minutes and carry out other items of business such as elections, reports, etc. However, the main part of our meeting is the ceremony of Exaltation of a new candidate. This takes the form of a play which recounts events based on the rebuilding of King Solomon's Temple by the children of Israel on their return from their Babylonian captivity.

There are also associated Lectures explaining the historical, symbolical and mystical knowledge of Royal Arch Masonry.

As in a Craft Lodge, there is progression of officers towards the chairs of the three Principals who govern the Chapter. Members proudly wear their Chapter jewel in Craft Lodges, white for a Companion, red for a Principal or past Principal and tri-coloured for a Provincial Grand Officer.
