Leicester Hosts the Prestonian Lecture, “King Solomon’s Temple in Myth and Ritual.”

Monday 23 March 2026 — Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester.

The Lodge of Research No. 2429, meeting in Leicester, had the honour of hosting this year’s Prestonian Lecture, “King Solomon’s Temple in Myth and Ritual.” This marked the inaugural delivery of the 2026 Prestonian Lecturer by Daniel Miles Johnson, DepG Treasurer.

Daniel was initiated into Apollo University Lodge No. 357 in February 2004, and at the Quarterly Communication of December 2025 he was appointed as the United Grand Lodge of England’s first Deputy Grand Treasurer.

The Master of the Leicester Lodge of Research and his team warmly welcomed a large gathering of members and guests, including visitors from the Order of Women Freemasons: Lodge Crusader No. 108 and Lodge Coeur de Lion No. 195.

Daniel’s lecture was exceptionally well received, offering a thoughtful exploration of the origins and evolution of the myths surrounding King Solomon’s Temple and their place within Masonic ritual. Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a superb meal prepared and served by the skilled staff of Devonshire Place, bringing the evening to a convivial close.

Leicester is the home to one of the previous Prestonian Lecturer, Aubrey Newman, who received the honour in 2003. Aubrey was pleased to be in attendance to witness the intriguing talk by Daniel.
