A NEW GREENHOUSE BRINGS FRESH OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENTS AT DEVONSHIRE COURT

At the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Devonshire Court Care Home in Oadby, Leicester, held on Thursday 17th September 2026, the Head of Freemasonry in Leicestershire & Rutland, Peter Kinder, was delighted to unveil a meaningful new addition to the home’s gardens.

Over recent months, residents and visitors had watched a new structure take shape, a large, purpose‑built greenhouse designed with full wheelchair access. The project, led by Phil Kent and his team, was created to ensure that residents with a love of gardening can continue to enjoy their hobby throughout their stay, regardless of mobility.

The greenhouse was made possible thanks to generous donations, including heartfelt contributions given by, and in the memory of, Michael Herbert, Derick Marston, and Edna Searson. Their families and friends can now take pride in knowing that their support will enrich the daily lives of residents for years to come.

A small gathering assembled in the garden as Geoff Searson introduced the project and shared its purpose. With the late‑summer sun beginning to fade, Peter Kinder cut the ribbon to officially open the greenhouse, marking a moment of celebration for everyone involved.

As the warmth of the day waned, residents made their way back indoors to enjoy a buffet, refreshments, and the continuation of the Annual General Meeting, rounding off an afternoon that blended community spirit, remembrance, and the promise of new opportunities for the residents of Devonshire Court.
