St Mary’s Freemasons Lodge has donated £1,000 to Rainbows Hospice who “brighten short lives, and support families”, rounding off an active season of local charitable support.
The tour of the excellent facilities in Loughborough revealed these to be just a small part of the services provided by the 180 Rainbows Hospice staff across five counties, with outreach and clinical nurse specialists in palliative care in each of the children’s hospitals across the East Midlands and covering the neonatal units in the respective cities.

Pictured are Ian Perry and David Alcraft of St Mary’s Lodge in Melton Mowbray, presenting the donation to Maria Thompson.
Maria and Kerry Laurie, both of the Fundraising Team, explained that Rainbows is mainly supported by charitable donations, with public money only providing about 13% of the over £8 million pounds needed each year. Discussing the funding mountain to be climbed each year they explained that donations of all sizes are welcomed as many smaller gifts multiply up to make the care possible.
