Leicestershire & Rutland, November 14, 2025 – In an age when most Masonic lodges gather in the evenings, a distinctive group in Leicestershire & Rutland is proving that Freemasonry doesn’t have to follow the traditional schedule. The Ratae Meridian Lodge No. 9673, which has met during the day for more than two decades, continues to provide an alternative for those brethren who find lunchtime more convenient than evening meetings. Since its founding in 1998, the Lodge has catered to a unique and loyal membership.
The most recent meeting, held on November 14, 2025, was a particularly well-organised occasion, demonstrating the continued success of the midday gatherings. Hosted at the esteemed Devonshire Place, the event culminated in a delightful lunch provided by the team at the venue.
One of the biggest advantages of the lunchtime meetings is their accessibility. The location, at Freemasons’ Hall in Leicester, is ideally situated for members working in the area, allowing them to attend during their lunch breaks. On this occasion, the event saw a number of distinguished attendees, including Peter Kinder, the Head of Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons, who was accompanied by his assistant Dale Page and Communications Officer Richard Barnett. The trio had a prior meeting in the office and took the opportunity to join the Ratae Meridian Lodge for the afternoon’s proceedings.
The meeting featured an outstanding performance of the Second Degree Tracing Board, skillfully presented by Pravesh Ganda of Bradgate Lodge. The tracing board, an essential symbol in Masonic tradition, was explained with great clarity and enthusiasm, drawing praise from all who attended.
“This was an excellent example of how our brethren can come together in an informal but deeply meaningful way,” said Peter Kinder, reflecting on the gathering. “The lunchtime format allows for a relaxed atmosphere, where members can enjoy the ritual and then share in fellowship over a meal, which is particularly appealing during the colder, darker months.”
Indeed, the lunchtime meetings have become a popular alternative for those who prefer to avoid the long, dark evenings of winter. The Ratae Meridian Lodge’s gatherings offer a warm and welcoming environment where Freemasons can connect, learn, and enjoy camaraderie without the demands of an evening meeting schedule.
For those members who may find the traditional evening lodges challenging to attend, the lunchtime meetings are highly recommended. Not only do they allow for easy participation, but they also offer a chance to enjoy the company of fellow brethren in a more relaxed setting, making them an ideal option for those seeking to continue their Masonic journey without the added complexities of evening travel and timing.
As the tradition continues to thrive, the Ratae Meridian Lodge No. 9673 is proving that Freemasonry is adaptable and welcoming to all, no matter their schedule or lifestyle.
