A warm summer's day on the 10th August saw crowds gather at Leicester Racecourse in support of Teenage Cancer Trust’s Family Fun Day.
Supported by Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons’, the afternoon’s racing raised money which Teenage Cancer Trust will use to fund specialist hospital units, nurses and youth workers that provide outstanding age-appropriate care and emotional support to those in need.
The cost to fund these services in the East Midlands is £524,128 every year, making support such as that provided by Leicestershire & Rutland crucial to the operation of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Event organiser, Mark Pierpoint of the Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons, said, “Teenage Cancer Trust provide a service which is dear to my heart. We are proud to support in any way we can to ensure anyone in need of this care due to cancer can access the support they need.”
The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Teresa Aldred was in attendance to present one of the prizes, as was Peter Kinder, the Head of Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons.
The Freemasons also hosted a marquee, where nearly 200 people watched the racing in style while raising money for the charity through auctions and donations. The auction was compared by Roger Dakin, a well-known MC and speaker at sporting events around the country.
Peter Kinder of the Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons, who presented a prize to the winner of the 4:30 pm race, said, “We are always ready to support local charities and good causes. Today has been a wonderful testament to all of the organisers, what a fantastic crowd and a superb day for us and the Teenage Cancer Trust.”
