Six members of Hastings Lodge No. 8695 who meet at the Masonic Hall in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, visited the Renal Unit at Derby Royal Infirmary on Friday 14th August to present a donation in support of an important fundraising appeal.
The Lodge was represented by Peter Jones, together with Mervyn Wass, Stuart Cooper, John Starkey, Tony Jones and Malcolm Bond. A cheque for £1,150 was handed over, although the Lodge’s total contribution amounted to £1,200.
Supporting a Vital Appeal
The donation will assist the Renal Unit’s appeal to raise £75,000 to replace its specially equipped holiday caravan on the Welsh coast, which is now beyond use. The caravan provides a rare and valuable opportunity for patients undergoing dialysis, and their families, to enjoy a holiday while still receiving essential treatment. The appeal has already reached approximately £50,000, bringing the Unit significantly closer to achieving its target.
A Cause Close to the Lodge
This appeal holds particular meaning for Hastings Lodge. Both Tony Jones and Malcolm Bond are currently receiving treatment at the Renal Unit, with Brother Malcolm undertaking home dialysis on a daily basis. Their experiences have strengthened the Lodge’s connection to the Unit and inspired its support.
A Warm and Informative Presentation
The cheque presentation took place in the Renal Unit’s waiting room, attended by consultants, nurses and more than twenty patients. This offered a valuable opportunity not only to present the donation, but also to share something of Freemasonry’s charitable work.
Malcolm Bond gave a brief explanation of Freemasonry’s values, its commitment to supporting good causes, and the Lodge’s reasons for choosing to back the Renal Unit’s appeal. His words were warmly received and helped to highlight how Masonic charity can make a meaningful difference to individuals and families.
Proud to Make a Difference
Hastings Lodge No. 8695 is proud to support such a worthwhile initiative and hopes its contribution will help the Renal Unit reach its £75,000 target, enabling many more patients and their families to enjoy a much‑needed holiday together.
