On Saturday 2nd August 2025, the Old Oakhamian Lodge No. 8033 celebrated its 60th anniversary with a joyful buffet lunch in the BAF Smith pavilion at Oakham School, marking six decades since the Lodge was consecrated on 22nd May 1965. The occasion was supported by the current master Ian Scantlebury and George Grant of our mother lodge, Vale of Catmos Lodge No.1265.
Twelve members of the Lodge gathered for the occasion, accompanied by family and friends, to reflect on the Lodge’s rich history and enduring fellowship. Among those honoured were the founding members and the Lodge’s first initiate, Headmaster John Buchanan, whose legacy still resonates strongly within the Lodge today.
The celebration was highlighted by a heartfelt speech from the Marc Goldstein, the current master, who paid tribute to the Lodge's journey and those who have contributed over the years.
In a touching moment of Masonic solidarity, four Women Freemasons from the Coeur de Lion Lodge No. 195, based at Syston Masonic Centre, led by Carole Nesbitt, joined the festivities. They too, are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year, and the event provided an opportunity to mark the shared milestone. The occasion concluded with a symbolic joint cake-cutting ceremony, bringing both Lodges together in celebration and fraternity.
This memorable event was not only a tribute to the past but also a reminder of the values of unity and friendship that continue to guide the Old Oakhamian Lodge into the future.
