Peppers thrives in its new Melton Centre

Pepper’s – a Safe Place – has received a £1,000 donation from St Mary’s Freemasons Lodge No. 7164 to support its new centre in Melton Mowbray, where the number of people using the service has doubled since the move.

Located on Nottingham Street, the new centre is helping Pepper’s reach more adults in need of support with their mental health, emotional wellbeing and loneliness. Its welcoming and accessible setting has made it easier for people to drop in, connect with others and take part in a wide range of activities.

The centre offers refreshments alongside activities including crafts, meditation, chair fitness and gardening with Wellies, creating a safe and friendly environment where visitors can find companionship, kindness and practical support.

Jenny Hendry, Pepper’s Melton Centre Manager, said:

“We are delighted to receive this donation from St Mary’s Lodge. Since moving to our new premises on Nottingham Street, we have been able to help so many more men and women. The centre is accessible and visible to everyone who walks by, and people often just pop in to see what we do.

“This kind donation means we can put on more activities and provide refreshments for those who come in needing kindness, a listening ear and a smile to make their day better. We are here to help any adult who is struggling with their mental health, loneliness or simply wants to look after their emotional wellbeing, which is so important.”

The funding will help Pepper’s continue to expand the support it offers through its Melton centre, ensuring that more local people have access to a welcoming space where they can feel heard, supported and valued.

Pepper’s Registered Charity was established by the family of Mary Pepper, a well-known Rutland personality, to continue her work and commitment to helping others. Today, the charity provides safe spaces and community support for adults who may be facing mental health challenges, isolation or emotional difficulties.

The donation is the latest example of support from St Mary’s Freemasons Lodge in Melton Mowbray, which continues to back local organisations making a meaningful difference in the community.
