Five whisky “enthusiasts” (purely in the name of research, of course) from the Leicestershire and Rutland lodges made a fact-finding expedition to Yorick Lodge at Great Queen Street for their November meeting. Yorick Lodge, The Metropolitan Whisky Lodge, No. 2771, has recently been repurposed as a whisky-themed lodge — a concept that, unsurprisingly, has proved extremely popular.
Starting with just nine members, it has grown at a rate that suggests the spirit was indeed moving; a recent meeting hosted more than one hundred very enthusiastic visitors.
Brethren from all over the country enjoyed tastings from seven different distilleries, explained by the “Whisky Sommelier and Taster in Chief” during the festive board — a perfect blend of education and “liquid enlightenment.”
The trip truly was a reconnaissance mission, as we hope to bring a similar whisky social event to London Road in the future… provided, of course, there’s sufficient interest (and we suspect there might be).
Ian Dennison concluded the evening by winning the sole raffle prize—an advent calendar featuring 25 Whiskies of the World, valued at £300. Needless to say, the journey home on the train was full of song and cheer!!
