In the true spirit of masonic brotherhood, seven members from The Lodge of Welcome No. 5664, including their Liaison Officer, embarked on a memorable journey to Warsaw, Poland, to visit Enigma Lodge No. 15 — the only English-speaking masonic lodge in Poland.

This special trip, which took place over the course of a weekend, was more than just a visit; it was a celebration of international fraternity, unity, and the timeless traditions that bind Freemasons across the globe.

The Spark of an Idea

The inspiration for this trip came from one of The Lodge of Welcome's own members, Sylvester Wanatowicz, a Polish mason who suggested it would be both meaningful and enriching to visit a Lodge in his home country. With curiosity piqued, the brethren turned to the internet and quickly discovered that Enigma Lodge No. 15 was not only based in Warsaw but also had connections to the United Grand Lodge in London, and crucially, conducted its work in English.

After following the proper protocols and gaining permission to visit, the trip was planned. Some members travelled on the 5th June, while others arrived the following day, ready to represent The Lodge of Welcome and share in the spirit of Masonic fellowship abroad.

A Ceremony to Remember

The visiting members of the lodge were warmly received by the members of Enigma Lodge, who opened their doors with genuine hospitality. The visitors were treated to a ceremony, which - while rooted in shared Masonic values - had intriguing differences from the ceremonies practiced in England. The experience was enlightening, and the ceremonial proceedings were followed by an equally engaging festive board, full of good food, warm conversation, and cross-cultural camaraderie.

A Gift of Brotherhood

To mark this special occasion, and as a token of their appreciation, The Lodge of Welcome presented Enigma Lodge No. 15 with a handcrafted gavel and base. This beautiful piece was personally made by Simon Sharman, a talented craftsman and devoted member of the lodge. The gavel, now a lasting memento of this inaugural visit, symbolizes unity, mutual respect, and the enduring bonds of Freemasonry.

The Importance of Visiting

Masonic visits such as this are more than just travel—they are powerful reminders of the global nature of Freemasonry. Every visit fosters mutual understanding, broadens perspectives, and strengthens the fraternal ties that transcend borders and language. It is through such exchanges that the Craft continues to flourish and evolve.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of this trip, the members of the Lodge of Welcome have

expressed a desire to make this a regular occurrence. With both lodges meeting on the first Friday of the month (Welcome meets eight times a year, while Enigma meets ten times), future coordination and visits are not only possible but encouraged.

Though the members of the lodge have arrived home, the memories, connections, and friendships forged in Warsaw will endure. The Lodge of Welcome No. 5664 extends heartfelt thanks to Enigma Lodge No. 15 for their hospitality and looks forward to welcoming them in return, continuing the cycle of brotherhood and unity that defines our Craft, building on the values of integrity, friendship, respect and service.
